NORTHWEST PASSAGE XL is designed for the
heavier paddler weighing between 180 and 250 pounds. She has the same
materials and methods of construction as NORTHWEST PASSAGE, but
with greater initial and ultimate stability to suit a heavier and taller
person.
She is 9 inches high at the side, rather than 8 inches
for NWP, and another inch taller on center. This provides
the necessary freeboard and footroom for the larger paddler.
Increasing length, and not breadth and depth, yields better over-all
drag characteristics than just blowing up all the dimensions by the
same amount (about 5 percent), with the same load carrying capacity
and stability.
|
She can be built any length, from 16 feet 3 inches to about 19 feet
to suit your particular weight and strength. If you are interested in
this option ask for a table of boat-lengths and drag vs paddler weight
with your order.
