Long Lake Wooden Boats started in 2001 in Western Washington where the summers and winters were mild, wet and grey. We could row or paddle year 'round in lakes, on the coast or on Puget Sound. Port Orchard and Long Lake are on the Kitsap Peninsula, west of Seattle where the pace is a little slower. But we've just moved to the sunny side of the mountains.

Sage Boats Will be our new Oregon business name, located in the high desert at 3400 feet, summers are warm and sunny, winters are cold and sunny. Nearby lakes and rivers freeze and we'll have to ski more. But our experience and philosophy hasn't changed a bit.

We seek to design and produce balanced, optimized small craft that can be built inexpensively by the home builder in a garage, or shop, from modern materials with a minimum of tools. We select strong, light-weight, construction methods and materials that will withstand a few decades of use. Our boats have adequate stability, low drag and beautiful lines.

With over a decade of boat-building experience, a wealth of design literature collected, and a career in naval architecture, boats are in our blood.

Each stock design is built here to prove the design package works; that you can build it. Weights, Displacement, Wetted Surface, Resistance, and other factors are calculated by hand and on the computer, before construction begins, and checked afterwards. Lines plans and offsets are from the computer and faired by hand. Panel layouts are calculated on the computer, and a model built. All this is done to assure that the selected design is optimimum for the performance intended.
